Now that the Day of Giving is behind us, we look forward to a year of events, speakers and general celebration on campus as SIU recognizes its sesquicentennial. I have written before about our themes of Saluki TRADITION, Saluki PRIDE and Saluki PROMISE, and I am ready to see how everyone on campus embraces those themes in their own events.
Everyone is invited
I would like to personally invite each of you to help us celebrate our 150th Anniversary from now through March 2020.
Attend a 150th-themed event, share your memories, photos and more on social media with the hashtag #SIU150, donate to the Forever SIU Campaign, plan a new event, or add a 150th theme to an existing event — there are many ways you can be a part of this milestone.
Whether you are a student, member of our faculty or staff, or a member of our broader community, you are welcome and encouraged to participate.
Tell us how you’re celebrating the 150th
If you’re helping to plan an event to celebrate, let us know. Visit 150.siu.edu to submit your event to our calendar, get ideas on how to incorporate our themes, and see what others are doing across campus.
There is even a limited amount of funding available to help you take your 150th celebration to the next level. Once again, visit 150.siu.edu for more details and to submit your proposal for funding.
New book about SIU’s history now available
“Southern Illinois University at 150 Years: Growth, Accomplishments and Challenges,” a new book featuring photos and stories that illuminate SIU’s remarkable history, is now available for sale from SIU Press. Join us Friday from 3-6 p.m. in the SIU Student Center to meet the book’s editor and authors, enjoy refreshments and more.
There are more events planned throughout the year to help promote the book, including book signings, receptions and more.
